Stateline Fury FAQs

The Stateline Fury coaching staff is one of the most knowledgeable in the Stateline area that all has unique abilities to teach the game of fastpitch at an advanced level to players of all ages. We prepare our players to play high school and college softball through consistent, proven training techniques used by most of the top coaches in the country. Our teams are not just teams-they are groups of girls that will remember each other for the rest of their lives, through experiences, memories, competition, and service, these girls become more than friends.

Program fees remain competitive with the elite programs across the Midwest, but Stateline Fury provides a complete training program with the top instructors in the area.  We design our program to give your athlete the best chance possible to play high school softball, and beyond.

2024/25 program fees, policies, and general information are available to players during tryouts.

Our standard roster size is 12-13 players.

Our B-level teams play most of their tournaments within a one-hour drive of Roscoe, IL. The more distant tournaments will often require a one or two-night hotel stay. Nationals will require a three to four-night stay. The premier level teams will play throughout the Midwest.

No, we guarantee the opportunity for her to compete for any position she tries out for.  However, it will be the decision of the head coach to determine where she has the best chance for success and where the team needs her most.

No. Stateline Fury is a competitive travel program and coaches create lineups in the best interest of the team and not an individual player. Coaches will involve as many players as possible during games designed for team improvement such as league games, pool games, round robins, practice games, or when scores direct the obvious.

The Fury program has players from the surrounding Stateline area, and as far away as Platteville, Madison, Sycamore, Rock Falls, Sterling, Antioch, and DeKalb.

We have both. Our non-parent coaches coach most of our A-level or elite teams and are some of the most successful in the Stateline area.  Our parent coaches historically start with younger age teams and develop with the help from our mentoring program.

We encourage our players to play multiple sports throughout the school year, but once the late spring/summer season starts, Fury softball comes first.

Throughout the year, there are opportunities to take vacations during school holidays.  During the months of April-July, players must be available, and cannot go on vacation.  Missing practice or game time can reduce playing time.

The simple answer is yes.  It’s very common to play between 2 and 4 games on both Saturday and Sunday, with occasional Friday games. Teams play 2-3 tournaments each month.  Coaches work hard to give you a tournament schedule months in advance, so your family can play accordingly.

We are always looking for qualified coaches and instructors. We offer a very competitive compensation package based on qualifications and merit. If you are interested in an interview, please contact us at (815) 312-5143.

The Stateline Fury has a fully turfed 10,000 square foot indoor facility and an outdoor two-diamond complex with stadium seating.  For more information click here!

RECREATIONAL VERSUS TRAVEL SOFTBALL

The biggest change is the significant time commitment and expectations of both the parent and player to play at this higher level.  The info below outlines some of our basic expectations for your daughter:

Average time requirements (excludes driving time):

  • Two practices per week @ 2 hours per practice for the months of August-October, and then again from January-June.
  • Most teams cut back to one practice per week for November - December or integrate speed and agility training.
  • Approximately 13-15 weekend tournaments.
  • Optional lessons (instruction time plus driving time).
  • Practice at home (especially for those players that play a specialty position such as a pitcher or catcher).

You should expect a higher level of game knowledge, coaching experience, and dedication from any travel coach.  Programs with elite athletes should also have elite coaches.  Travel coaches have many years of playing and coaching experience before joining a travel program.  You should expect to receive quality instruction for your daughter and see progress in her abilities.  That said, parents need to let coaches work with their players without interference or having the parent hover over their daughter.

Travel coaches respect that you are paying for outside instruction, and as long as they know of it will not try to derail what they are teaching.

Parent support is critical to the success of any travel softball program but also the most difficult to manage.  First, always to support the coaching staff and their decisions.  Second, be willing to help the coaching staff with administrative functions such as finding hotels, organizing team social events, fundraising or even helping at practice.  Coaches value parent support.

Time and family sacrifice will probably outweigh the playing and equipment costs.  The travel coach will explain the costs to pay for registration, game uniforms, practice uniforms, and tournaments.  Expect to pay between $900 - $1,600 depending on what age group and team classification your daughter plays for. It often requires teams to seek sponsorship and conduct fundraising to offset playing costs.  Cost per season also depends upon the number of tournaments the team plays.
