In addition to individual team practice and development, The Stateline Fury has winter training which is a focused period of softball skill development conducted primarily from November through February. During this time, players participate in training sessions held approximately two times per week. These sessions are led by our skilled softball technical staff, which includes some of the top high school and college coaches, and college players in the Stateline area.
The Winter training program is designed to enhance players' fundamental skills and tactical understanding of the game. It provides a structured environment where athletes can improve their hitting, fielding, pitching, base running, and overall game strategy. The coaching staff emphasizes instruction tailored to each player's needs, aiming to prepare them for competitive play during the upcoming softball season.
Overall, the Stateline Fury Winter training serves as a crucial component of our player development pathway, fostering growth, teamwork, and a deepened passion for the sport among our athletes.
No uniforms are included in the fees. The Stateline Fury 16U Red team utilizes two distinct full uniforms, each priced at approximately $125. These uniforms can be purchased through our Stateline Fury store.
It's important to note that Stateline Sports Group refreshes its uniform designs every two years. Currently, we are in the second year of our current uniform cycle, with plans to introduce a new uniform design for the 2025/2026 season.
The Stateline Fury 16U Red Team will compete in an extensive tournament schedule designed for college-bound student-athletes, averaging 16-20 tournaments per season. This includes approximately four tournaments in the fall, two in the winter, and seven in the summer after high school ball. Last season, as a 15U team, they participated in prestigious events such as the Queen of the Hill Qualifier, Top 100 Showcase in Indianapolis, Stateline Snowdown, DeMarini Showcase, Battle of the Borders, Heartland Shootout, Firecracker Showcase, PGF Stars N Stripes, USSSA Class A World Championships, and the PGF Midwest Nationals.
At Stateline Sports Group, we recognize that travel softball is a significant investment for our players and their families. It is our commitment to ensure that every player receives fair and equal opportunities for development and playing time.
Pool Play and Friendlies: During pool play or friendly matches, coaches are expected to provide equal playing time for all players. This policy ensures that each player has the opportunity to contribute and grow in a supportive environment.
Bracket Games: In bracket games, coaches are encouraged to field a lineup that maximizes the team's chances of success and victory. This may involve adjustments to playing time-based on game strategy and performance evaluations.
Coach Responsibility: Coaches are reminded that they selected each player to be part of their team. It is their responsibility to foster the growth and development of all team members while striving for competitive excellence.
By adhering to these principles, we uphold our commitment to both player development and competitive achievement at Stateline Sports Group.
Our Stateline Fury coaches dedicate significant time to coaching for the program. Stateline Sports Group believes it's important to compensate coaches fairly for their expertise and time commitment. Our payment policy ensures coaches receive compensation for their coaching services. Coaches who have children in the program, however, are not reimbursed for any travel expenses.
Coach Moss receives a compensation of $1500.00 per season, which is funded through the player fees. She covers her own travel expenses because her daughter is a team member. On the other hand, Coach McKinney volunteers his coaching services and does not receive compensation for coaching or travel expenses.
This policy reflects our commitment to equitable compensation for coaches while maintaining transparency about financial arrangements within our program.
Each family commits to participating in the two (2) Stateline Sports Group mandatory fundraisers each year. They acknowledge that they have the option to buy out of both fundraisers. If they choose this option, They agree to a buy-out fee of $350.00 at the time of registration, which can be added to the payment plan selected during registration.
If they opt to participate in the two program fundraisers, they agree to meet the minimum fundraising goal of $400.00 total between both events. If they do not reach this minimum amount, they understand that they will be billed for the shortfall after the fundraisers, with payment due within seven (7) working days.
Yes, we do require fundraising as part of our program. The cost of high-level travel softball continues to rise each season, necessitating fundraising efforts to support our activities. Each member is expected to participate in two mandatory Stateline Sports Group program fundraisers.
Additionally, the Stateline Fury 16U Red team will collectively engage in a couple of team fundraisers specifically aimed at covering additional tournament costs. Details about these team fundraisers will be discussed during our initial team meeting scheduled for August.

Denny McKinney, affectionately known as "Grandpa" or "Pops" in the fastpitch softball community, is currently the Executive Director of Stateline Sports Group and a founding member of the Stateline Fury program. Denny's journey in fastpitch softball began in 1959 at the age of 10, playing for his local Lone Rock, Wisconsin city team alongside his farmer uncles. He humorously recalls that for a long time, he thought the uniform consisted of bib overalls and work boots.
Denny continued playing the game until 1998 when he humorously recalls a ball going past his head into right field, which he claims he never saw. Since 1979, Denny has been coaching travel fastpitch softball, a time when there were only two travel teams in the Stateline area. During his coaching tenure, Denny's teams have achieved significant success, with three teams winning Class A National tournaments (two ASA and one USSSA).
In addition to his travel coaching, Denny coached at Hononegah High School from 1986 to 1990 alongside Coach Steve Stromquist. In 1989, he was part of the Hononegah team that reached the IHSA state tournament finals. Denny returned to coach Hononegah three years ago, leading the team to three consecutive conference championships, including an undefeated conference record in the 2023 season, and regional championships in two of the last three years, setting sights on the upcoming 2025 season. In 2024 Denny was voted the Nic 10 high school conference coach of the year.
Throughout his coaching career with the Fury program, Denny has maintained one of the highest winning percentages in the area. He firmly believes that while good players must possess skills, learning how to play the game correctly with integrity and sportsmanship is paramount.
